In the exhibition “där nattens former vant vibrera” sculptures made from mixed materials are presented, exploring the tension within a struggle to endure, to hold on to hope and belief in the future. Found materials meet constructed elements, seeking something out of grasp, fumbling for something to hold on to. The figures drift within a liminal existence, in a brittle state that approaches issues regarding permanence, balance, longing, and resignation.

Emilia Roosvall moves between different practices and materials in her work but often returns to sculpture. Her art explores how subjective experiences relate to the physical. Through themes such as endurance, dependency, vulnerability, and longing, she examines the oxymoron of the body. An asset, carrying you, yet also a limitation, pain, isolation. Roosvall’s works illustrate relations of dependency, such as living in the confinement of a body being unavoidably dependent on it, inviting others to reflect on their own dependencies as well as societal ones.
Weight is another recurring theme in Roosvall’s work – a force that both pulls down and holds together. In her pieces, weight is allowed to challenge a body’s constitution, test the limits of what holds, what breaks, and what continues despite its fragility. Roosvall seeks out states of instability, dependency, and balance. Fragments and found elements are joined into forms where each encounter contains an inherent uncertainty. Within this fragile balance, there is often an animacy – a will to continue, to endure, and to remain.
