Archives' day
8 november 2025
This year’s theme is Nature & Outdoor Life, Hökarängen Archive is showing the exhibition “Fagerlid parklek, a staffed playground in Hökarängen: Play and outdoor activities, a meeting place for all ages!”
On Archives’ Day, a small selection of enlarged photographs from the 1980s at Fagerlid parklek will be shown. During this period parklek offered a rich variety of outdoor play, games, sports, adventure playground constructions, rabbits, creative activities, all adapted to different seasons! Fagerlid parklek is a part of Hökarängen’s history – and Hökarängen’s future.
A parklek is a staffed playground. The staff at parklek have always been highly appreciated; their knowledge of play and social interaction is very important for the neighbourhood. The last employees at Fagerlid parklek, Pia Sjökvist and Kjell Andersson, retired in 2020. For decades they were "Hökis’" play leaders familiar to 'all of Hökarängen' by lending out toys, bikes, balls, playing games, serving snacks, lighting the barbecue, organizing family evenings and discos, flooding the ice rink, running the kiosk, brewing coffee, and much, much more.
The exhibition also gives insight into the citizens’ commitment to maintain Fagerlid parklek. Many protest lists were written when a closure notice came in 2019. During the following Covid-19 pandemic, non-profit groups kept Fagerlid parklek open on Sundays. In September 2024, the Farsta District Council decided on a new parklek building and the reopening of Fagerlid parklek. November 2025, the parklek area is surrounded by construction fences in preparation for the parklek building. The reopening for Fagerlid parklek is estimated in 2027.
The Hökarängen Archive has unique photographs by Yngve Hellström showing children playing at Fagerlid parklek in 1958 when his wife, Gun Hellström, worked at Fagerlid parklek. Fagerlid parklek has been part of Hökarängen’s history since the 1950s, back when it was the most child-rich suburb in the "new Stockholm". The Swedish expression from the time "run out and play" coincides with outdoor play at Fagerlid parklek.
The Hökarängen Archive is a citizens’ archive. In 2024, a major renovation, indexing, new furnishings and new collections were added to the archive. A group of volunteers, Friends of the Hökarängen Archive, with broad backgrounds and expertise, are engaged in the work. The photographs from Fagerlid parklek will be included in the Hökarängen Archive in 2026.
During Archives’ Day, 2 visitors at a time will be admitted to the archive, entrance via Konsthall C. The Friends of the Hökarängen Archive will be on site and greet you at the entrance. You are welcome to visit the openings at Konsthall C held on the same day.
